Me and I

Young children say, "Bill and me are going to play outside." Usually, someone corrects them. Later, children are drilled in this grammar rule until they are sure they know it. However, what does one do when he hears someone says, "Do not crash into Catie and I"? Most merely gloss over it because they think that using "me" instead of "I" all the time is taboo. It's not. Saying "Lance and I" occurs when Lance and I are doing the action. When the action is being done to us, we say "Lance and me."
English is a confusing language. However, this is a basic covered in all grammar courses, and even before a person reaches high school, he should be able to easily discern when and when not to use "I".
